How many Americans are moving each year? Just curious.

Well I did see an article about this in USA Today actually; “Each year, roughly 40 million **Americans** , or about 14 percent of the U.S. population, **move** at least once” - this is from 2018 though. Here’s the link: [Population migration patterns: Cities Americans are flocking to](https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/economy/2018/07/05/cities-americans-growing-population-migration/35801343/)

WHAT? Americans moving?

Like moving out of state? or moving where? or Americans vs. another nationality? What are you really asking?

I think @JPlandlord is just trying to get a sense of how many people are moving from one residence to another on average every year (whether out of state or staying in the same state).

Sometimes those numbers are tricky to pin down, especially given that census data is outdated and not only is the population growing but a lot of changes are happening across the board (some states are passing laws that might make it harder to be a rental owner but make it easier to rent). I’m sure a quick Google search might yield some basic results.

If you’re trying to gauge where to buy your next investment property, just ask that. I think there are some great opportunities in places like Austin, TX.

The question is not clear. why just “AMERICANS?” vs. other nationalities? Moving within the state or in or out of the country? What is this question inferring?

@Rwiesand I agree this question is a little confusing. I do think it just means how many people are moving per year in the USA.

It could have been phrased more eloquently.

Considering how often the military moves people around, moving numbers have got to be insanely high.

This would be my assumption as well. Between that and the heightened trend of a “nomadic” lifestyle, my guess is those numbers will probably continue to grow. This is important for gauging possible market growth in certain areas and can be beneficial to those looking to get started in REI.
