# Fraud indicator on the credit report

Hello – I have a couple who’s from another country and the husband‘s credit report indicated a fraud indicator – either the Social Security number is new or doesn’t exist. I met with them today and he said that he’s been in the country for a couple of years and that’s why his Social Security card is only two years old. I compared the Numbers on his card to the last four on his check stub. I also checked his name and they were identical on his Social Security card and his check stub and drivers license. Is this something I should still be concerned about, or can this be regarded as doing my due diligence?

I would be concerned. Only “permanent legal residents” are issued SS numbers. Does the other applicant have verifiable residency status? You should check the laws in your area, but if you decide to rent to them., I would charge a pretty hefty deposit. First, last, and at least one month’s rent as security.
