What if the landlord is the one being violent and has been removed from the property by the police? What recourse do I have for not having to subject myself to him?

That’s tricky. I’m not an attorney, so I can’t say for sure if you could get a restraining order against the landlord, given it’s his property… you may just want to start looking for a new place and break the lease if you feel threatened.

@Colleenp1369 - I’m so sorry to hear that. That sounds like a terrible experience.

I can’t provide legal advice here. I would recommend contacting your township to see if they have any public resources to help facilitate. Sometimes you can find a public attorney who can provide legal guidance.

Be sure to read through your lease to best understand what your options may be.

I hope this gets resolved!

This is only one side of the story. Why did the landlord become violent that the police had to be called?

Why haven’t you moved out, and what would be your landlords’ story? I’m suspecting that we are only hearing partial truths here. Please let us know what happens.
